Three Time Curiosity Open Blue Banner Winner

The Orange High School Robotics Team 1787 - The Flying Circuits traveled to the Great Lakes Science Center on Saturday, September 30, 2023 and for the third consecutive time won the annual Curiosity Open and took home the blue banner!

The team was ranked number one heading into the playoffs, and chose two other teams to form an alliance; Team 695 (Bison Robotics) from Beachwood and team 3504 (The Girls of Steel) from Pittsburgh. Team 1787 advisor Ryan McMonigle, who works with the OHS team along with advisor Jon Rice and volunteer Simon Wieder (OHS Class of 2016), said, “Overall, I am most proud of the efforts of the team as a whole. At an event like this, there is always some level of adversity that every team has to face. Things break, and mistakes happen along the way. The team did an amazing job addressing each mishap as they came, and found clever solutions to each and every problem. They worked as a team, and definitely earned the blue banner as a team.”

As the two-time defending champs, the team was excited for the opportunity to not only defend the title and win the blue banner for a third time, but to introduce several new members to the competition atmosphere. The Flying Circuits had 26 students at the event, with several new members in attendance. The 26 OHS students at the Curiosity Open were Moriah Altman, Jack Arch, Eden Austin, Ahmet Baglam, Charlotte Bolton, treasurer Anjali Chepyala, Kallin Ford, Tyler Heasley, Logan Kaplan, Andras Karman, Gemma Klisovic, Giada Klisovic, Jaden Levinson, Max Levinson, secretary Ben Lilly, Charlie Loebl, Rafi Mendlowitz, Seth Miller, Piper Newman, Matthew Powell, president Charlie Rubsamen, Dominic Shotwell, Amara Udeh, Rahul Vijayendran, vice president Ben Wei, and Elliot Wright.
