Congratulations to Orange High School senior Beren Berber who has been named the Kiwanis “Senior of the Month” for March 2024. Beren has excelled in the areas of service, athletics, and academic excellence.

A three-year member of the National Honor Society, Beren has spent the last four years cultivating his skills as a multilingual speaker and spending more than a hundred hours mentoring Turkish students in English. Not able to speak English until the age of four, Beren used his language-learning processes to help others foster theirs. He has also used his musical skills in the Turkish instrument known as the “saz” to raise awareness for causes. Last year he collaborated with the Cleveland Baglama Ensemble and the Cleveland Orchestra to raise money for the victims of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes.

Beren’s list of accomplishments is long, including receiving the Ohio and Global Seal of Biliteracy, becoming an AP Scholar with Honor, and earning the prestigious Rensselaer Medal Award given to secondary school students who have distinguished themselves in mathematics and science. For the past three years, Beren has served as a Medical Research Intern exploring an emerging technology called Indocyanine Green (ICG) and its utility during an adrenalectomy. He has been both an oral presenter and author on this topic and has been published in the Surgical Endoscopy Journal. Earlier this year he became the first high school student to ever present to the American College of Surgeons Annual National Meeting.

At OHS Beren has co-founded the Science Olympiad Club of which he is a Co-President, and the Chess Club, serving as Vice President. A student-athlete on the Track & Field team, Beren earned two Varsity Letters and received a silver medal at Track and Field Districts for the Long Jump and was invited to State-level competition for Indoor Track.

The Highest Honor Roll student balances his multitude of activities with academic excellence. He will attend Duke University in the fall on a pre-med track with a major in statistics.

Every school year, the Kiwanis Club of Lander Circle recognizes six seniors for their leadership, integrity, and academic achievements. This marks the final Kiwanis Student of the Month for the Class of 2024. We thank the Kiwanis Club for its ongoing support and congratulate Beren Berber as the March 2024 Kiwanis Student Recipient!!!
